From Saturday, June 13, to Thursday, June 18, 2026, the creative sketchbook workshop ‘in the field’ with Sonja Beer will take place at the Hotel Central La Fainera in Valchava. Surrounded by the blossoming mountain landscape of the Biosfera Val Müstair, we will devote ourselves to drawing and painting botanical motifs. The course is aimed at participants who have already attended Sonja Beer's introductory course in botanical art. After individual arrival on Saturday, the workshop will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome aperitif and dinner. From Sunday to Wednesday, we will work in the field and in the studio from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Depending on the weather, we will spend half a day or a whole day outside and meet in the evening at 6:30 p.m. for dinner together. On Thursday, June 18, 2026, the course ends with departure; the exact daily schedule will be determined together depending on the weather.

From June 29 to July 5, 2026, we will discover the fascinating flora and bird life of Val Müstair. Together with experienced excursion leaders, we will explore the valley on four varied day hikes and an early morning excursion – always with our eyes and ears open to the rich flora and fauna of this unique region. We will hike on marked mountain trails at various altitudes – around the Ofen Pass, the Umbrail, the Rom Valley, and the sunny southern flank of the Münstertal. The exact routes will be adapted on site to the weather conditions and vegetation development. Sure-footedness and good physical condition for mountain hikes are required.

Experience Val Müstair at its most authentic – amid wild landscapes, living culture, and impressive biodiversity. With a little luck, you may spot deer, chamois, or ibex, and rare reptiles such as the green lizard and smooth snake also call this area home. Away from the nature trails, the valley delights with its culture: the Benedictine monastery of St. Johann (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the traditional villages with sgraffito houses, and the Tessanda hand weaving mill in Santa Maria. You will be accompanied by Therese Plüss, a Swiss-certified hiking guide and experienced nature expert who has known the area around the Ofen Pass for decades.
